Tirunallar Saneeswaran Temple
Tirunallar Saneeswaran Temple, also known as Dharbaranyeswarar Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva worshipped as Dharbaranyeswarar and his consort is Pranamambika, also known as Bogamartha Poonmulayal. It is located at Tirunallar in Karaikal, Tamil Nadu. The temple is famous for worshipping Lord Shani(Saturn). This temple is classified as a Paadal Petra Sthalam since it has been glorified in the ancient tamil canonical work by the Nayanars.
As per legend, a popular king Nala married his lady love Dhamayanthi. the Devas, who envied the king, approached Shani and requested him to trouble the king. As per their request, Lord Shani influenced Nala with malefic effects resulting in the king losing his kingdom, wife and health. It is then that the king reached Thirunallar to worship Lord Shiva at this temple and regained all that he lost due to Shani.
The transit of Shani to and from one’s birth star is considered a great event which may be favourable or unfavourable to the people depending on their zodiac sign. Devotees throng the temple on this day of transit called Sani Peyarchi, to render their prayers to Lord Shani to have a peaceful life.

Everyone experiences the influence of Shani in their lifetime. This is when they may have to undergo extreme hardships. Worshipping Lord Saneeswaran at this temple alleviates the ill effects caused by him. Devotees take oil bath in the Nala Theertham (holy tank) at the temple to get rid of the malefic effects. They light lamps with gingely oil and offer sesame rice as Nivedhya.
Performing Navagraha Shanti Homas appeases the anger of the planet saturn. Devotees also offer abishekam to Lord Darbaranyeswara with milk, rosewater, tender coconuts, curd, Dil oil, sandal paste, sacred ashes (Vibuthi) and new clothes.
