Agneeswarar Temple is a hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva worshipped as Agneeswarar and his consort is Karpagambigai. It is located in Kanjanoor near Kumbakonam. This temple is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the Tamil canonical work by the Nayanars. It is one of the famous Navagraha temples of Tamil Nadu specifically for Sukran(Venus) who is believed to be within the stomach of the idol of Shiva.

Since Lord Shiva was worshipped by Agni Bagwan at this temple, the presiding deity is known as Agneeswarar.

A favourably placed Sukran in one’s horoscope as per their birth star, bestows with a wealthy and prosperous life including good name and fame. On the contrary, if Sukran is unfavourably placed, it causes delay in marriage, unhappy married life, eye ailments, skin diseases, problems related to vehicles and business.

As per legend, the amirtha prepared by devas and asuras, had been consumed by the devas without sharing with the asuras. Asuras got furious and complained to their Guru, Sukran about this act of devas. Sukran then cursed the devas that though the amirtha gives an immortal life to them, they would not lead a pleasurable life. It is then that the devas worshipped Agneeswarar at this temple and got rid of the dosha cursed on them by Sukran.

This temple is famous for performing Kalathira Dosha Pariharam for Lord Sukran. Archana, abhishekam and homam are performed at the temple to ward off Sukra dosha.

Devotees offer white Lotus, white cloth, common bean(mochchai) and fig (aththi) and light 20 clay lamps to appease Sukran. Special poojas are done on Fridays which is considered auspicious for Sukran, the second most beneficial planet after Guru.

500

Homam

7500

108 Kalasabhishekam

20000

06:00 AM to 12:00 PM

04:00 PM to 09:00 PM

Sri Agneeswarar Temple, Aduthurai-Kuthalam Road, Kanjanoor, Tamil Nadu 609804

Phone: 0435 247 3737

The nearest airport to the temple is Trichy airport at a distance of 120 km.

Aduthurai railway station is the nearest railway station to the temple at 7 km.
