- Presiding deity Perumal is made of Tharu-wood.
- The tower of the temple is the third tallest in the state, the first at Sri Rangam, the second at Srivilliputhur. This is a 11 tier 192 feet tall tower.
- This temple is one of the ‘Panchakannan Kshetrams‘ (five Holy temples of Lord Krishna,an incarnation of Lord Vishnu).
- This temple is said to be the place where the first three Azhwars, the great saints Poigai Azhwar, Bhoothathazhwar and Peyazhwar attained salvation.

- On the day of Thiruvonam Star (monthly nakshatram), devotees light ghee lamp with 5 wicks for Mahavishnu. Then they chant the Vishnu Sahasranamam, followed by Vishnu Ashtotharam. They offer milk payasam (Gheer). Devotees believe this pooja when done with whole heart will enable them to buy property or land.
