In this Sakthivaneswarar temple, the Linga, the worship symbol of Lord Shiva is seen hugged by his consort Parvati, hence Lord Shiva is called as Sivakozhundeesvara and Sakthi Mutham. It is believed that when one prays to Sakthivanesvara with faith, one is blessed with the life partner of one's choice.

  • Goddess Parvathi made penance towards the Lord Shiva from here .The lord decided to test her and delayed his dharshan. Goddess came to know this and stood in one leg and started her penance. Though he got satisfied but extended his test. At last he came to this place in the form of big flame (Jyothiswarubam). Upon knowing the Lord Parvathi embraced him. Hence the Lord is called as Sivakkozhundeeswarar and the place is called as Siva Sakthi mutram.
  • This temple was reconstructed by stone during the period of Sembiyan Madevi and the early years of Raja Raja Chola I (1000 CE). Inscriptions from the period of Raja raja Chola II (1166-1182 CE), Kulottunga Chola III, and the Vijayanagar Emperors are found here.
  • This place is near to Patteeswaram temple, now a days the sakthimutram temple is know as ChinnaKovil which is popular in local.
