Morning
Azhagar Kovil
  • It is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu.
  • Kallazhagar Temple in Alagarkoil where vishnu is worshipped as Kallazhagar(as Meenakshi’s brother)and his consort Lakshmi as Thirumamagal.
  • The Main tower entrance (Mukya Gopuram) always remains closed, with the shrine of Karupana Swami. The very closed door itself is worshipped as Patinettaam padi Karuppan(meaning, the black Lord who (sits) at the Eighteen steps).Only Once in a year, the door is opened and Sudarshana Chakra the famous Vishnu's wheel, passes over through the open door.
  • The legend has it that sage Suthapas (Munivar) was bathing in Nupura Ganga at Azhakar Hill and did not pay heed to Durvasa Maharishi, who was passing by. The enraged Durvasa cursed Suthapas that he would turn into a frog until he is redeemed of his curse by Lord Sundararajar, who is also known as Kallazhakar. The Suthapas Maharishi, who is named as ‘Manduka maharisi’ munivar because of his frog status, performed ‘thapas’ (prayer) on the banks of river Vaigai. The Lord Kallazhakar comes from his abode in Azhakar Hill to redeem Manduka Maharishi of his curse. Since days, it is believed that the lord Kallazhakar comes to Thenur.

Pazhamudir Cholai
  • Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple is the only one among Murugan’s Aaru Padai Veedu temples, where he graces the devotees with his consorts Valli and Deivanai.
  • The wedding festival is celebrated along with Skanda Sashti festival.
  • Also, this is the historical place where Lord played with the ripe Tamil poetess Avvaiyar asking her what fruit she wished, cooked or uncooked – Sutta Pazham or Sudadha Pazham.

Meenakshi Amman Temple
  • Meenakshi Amman Temple is dedicated to Parvati, known as Meenakshi.
  • There are 14 gopuram the tallest of which, the famous southern tower, rises to over 170 ft (52 m) and was built in 1559 and two golden sculptured vimanas, the shrines over the garbhagrihas (sanctums) of the main deities.
  • The temple attracts 15,000 visitors a day, around 25,000 on Fridays.
  • There are an estimated 33,000 sculptures in the temple.
  • It was on the list of top 30 nominees for the "New Seven Wonders of the World".
  • The annual 10-day Meenakshi Tirukalyanam festival, celebrated during April and May, attracts 1 million visitors.

Ramanathaswamy Temple
  • Ramanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to god Shiva located on Rameswaram island.
  • It is also one of the twelve Jyothirlinga temples.
  • It is one of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams.
  • The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India.
  • There are two lingams inside the sanctum - one built by Goddess Sita, from sand, residing as the main deity, Ramalingam and the one brought by Lord Hanuman from Kailash called Vishwalingam.
  • There are about 1212 pillars in the outer corridor.Their height is about 30 feet from the floor to the center of the roof.
  • The main tower or rajagopuram is 53 m tall.
  • There are twenty-four Tirthas which are important.
  • Twenty-two of the Tīrthas are within the Rāmanāthasvāmī Temple.
  • Bathing in these Tīrthas is a major aspect of the pilgrimage to Rameswaram and is considered equivalent to penance.

  • Agni Tirtham is one of the Tirthas of Rameswaram.
  • The beach east of Ramanathaswamy Temple is known by this name.
  • This Tirtham is one of the most visited Tirthams of Rameswaram for a holy bath.
  • Pilgrims those who are plan for sacred bath in theerthas should first took bath in Agni theertham and followed by that bath in theerthas inside the temple.
  • The childless couples performing specific poojas (holy rituals) in the shores of agni theertha and offer their prayers to the Ramanathaswamy (The main deity of this temple), they believed that by performing these rituals and holy bath in rameswaram , they will be blessed with child.

Gandamana Parvatham
  • Gandhamadhana Parvatam is famous for its beautiful sunrise and sunset.
  • It is a holy place for the pilgrims, who come to worship Lord Rama’s footprints.
  • The double storied Mandapam of the Ramjharoka Temple on this hillock houses the footprints of Lord Rama on the Chakra.
  • From this hilltop, pilgrims can view the entire island of Rameshwaram.

Five Faced Anjaneya Temple, Floating Stone
  • The temple is situated just 2 km from the main city temple and has a statue of Hanuman with senthooram.
  • In 1964, the idols of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita were brought from Dhanushkodi and placed in this temple.
  • It is believed that the floating stone used for constructing the stone bridge across the sea, lies outside this temple
  • This floating stone was used for building Sethu Bandanam, the bridge connecting India and Sri Lanka.
