Evening
Brihadeeswarar Temple
  • Brihadeshwara Temple (locally known as Tanjai Periya Kovil) is dedicated to Shiva. It is also known as RajaRajeswara Temple.
  • It is one of the largest temples in India. This temple is 1000 years old.
  • The vimanam (temple tower) is 100 ft (30 m) high and is the tallest in the world. The Kumbam weighs around 80 tons.
  • There is a big statue of Nandi (sacred bull), carved out of a single rock measuring about 16 ft (4.9 m) long and 13 ft (4.0 m) high at the entrance.
  • The temple is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Tamil Nadu.
  • A widely held belief is that the shadow of the Vimana never falls on the ground.

Sri Ranganathar Temple
  • It is one among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu.
  • Srirangam is famous for its Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus and the largest temple complex in India.
  • Srirangam among a few "self-manifested" shrines (Swayam Vyakta Kshetras) of Lord Vishnu.
  • Lord Sri Ranganatha of the temple appeared from the Milk Ocean.
  • It is believed that Lord Brahmma worships the Lord just before sunrise each day.
  • The gopuram of the temple is called the Rajagopuram and is 236 feet (72 m) tall, the tallest in Asia.
  • The Srirangam temple is one of the three temples of the God Ranganatha that are situated in the natural islands formed in the Kaveri river.
  • There is a gopuram fully made of gold, which is protected by electrical fence.
  • Sriranganatha swami at Srirangam temple, sriranganathar is called Anatha Sayana Perumal (seen in lying position in the five headed snake) and blesses with his three wives namely Sridevi, Boodevi and Renganachiyar in the first enclosure of temple Srirangam.
  • Legend has that Lord Rama performed aradhanam (pooja) to Vishnu's idol. As a symbol of love he gifted the idol to Vibishana (brother of Ravana of the Hindu epic Ramayana) to take back with him to Lanka. There was a condition that he could not set the idol on earth and if he did it would seat itself permanently. Vibishana took this idol and while traveling towards Lanka, came upon the banks of the river Kaveri. He placed the idol on banks of river Kaveri, while an utsavam was in progress. When the utsavam got over, the Lord refused to move as he loved the place (Srirangam). When Vibhishana requested him to come along with him, the lord refused but promised to bless Vibhishana by always facing South (the direction of Lanka, home to Vibhishana) Hence it is that the deity (in a reclining posture) faces South.

Jambukeswarar Temple
  • Thiruvanaikaval (Jambukeswaram) is a famous Shiva temple in Tiruchirapalli.
  • It was around 1,800 years ago.
  • It is one of the Panchabhoota Sthalams.
  • This temple represents the element of water. The sanctum of Jambukeswara has an underground water stream and in spite of pumping water out, it is always filled with water.
  • It is one of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams.
  • The temples idols are installed opposite to each other - Such temples are known as Upadesa Sthalams.
  • As the Devi was like a student and Jambukeswara like a Guru (teacher) in this temple. The sannathy of the goddess Akilandeshwari and the sannathy of Prasanna Vinayaka are in the shape of the pranava manthra called "Om".

Azhagar Kovil
  • It is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu.
  • Kallazhagar Temple in Alagarkoil where vishnu is worshipped as Kallazhagar(as Meenakshi’s brother)and his consort Lakshmi as Thirumamagal.
  • The Main tower entrance always remains closed, with the shrine of Karupana Swami. The very closed door itself is worshipped as Patinettaam padi Karuppan(meaning, the black Lord who (sits) at the Eighteen steps).Only Once in a year, the door is opened and Sudarshana Chakra the famous Vishnu's wheel, passes over through the open door.
  • The legend has it that sage Suthapas (Munivar) was bathing in Nupura Ganga at Azhakar Hill and did not pay heed to Durvasa Maharishi, who was passing by. The enraged Durvasa cursed Suthapas that he would turn into a frog until he is redeemed of his curse by Lord Sundararajar, who is also known as Kallazhakar. The Suthapas Maharishi, who is named as ‘Manduka maharisi’ munivar because of his frog status, performed ‘thapas’ (prayer) on the banks of river Vaigai. The Lord Kallazhakar comes from his abode in Azhakar Hill to redeem Manduka Maharishi of his curse. Since days, it is believed that the lord Kallazhakar comes to Thenur.

Pazhamudhir Cholai
  • Pazhamudir cholai Murugan Temple is the only one among Muruga’s Aaru Padai Veedu temples, where he graces the devotees with his consorts Valli and Deivanai.
  • The wedding festival is celebrated along with Skanda Sashti festival.
  • Also, this is the historical place where Lord played with the ripe Tamil poetess Avvaiyar asking her what fruit she wished, cooked or uncooked – Sutta Pazham or Sudadha Pazham.

Meenakshi Amman Temple
  • Meenakshi Amman Temple is dedicated to Parvati, known as Meenakshi.
  • There are 14 gopuram the tallest of which, the famous southern tower, rises to over 170 ft (52 m) and was built in 1559 and two golden sculptured vimanas, the shrines over the garbhagrihas (sanctums) of the main deities.
  • The temple attracts 15,000 visitors a day, around 25,000 on Fridays.
  • There are an estimated 33,000 sculptures in the temple.
  • It was on the list of top 30 nominees for the "New Seven Wonders of the World".
  • The annual 10-day Meenakshi Tirukalyanam festival, celebrated during April and May, attracts 1 million visitors.

Sri Anjaneya Temple
  • Sri Aanjaneya in the temple is 18 feet tall and graces with a Japamala in hand and a sword in the waist.
  • The Lord is generally known as Sri Lakshmi Narasimha, if Mother Sri Lakshmi is on his lap. In this temple, Sri Mahalakshmi has Her place on the chest of the Lord.
  • The paintings of Sri Ashtapuja Narasimhar, Vaikunda Perumal, Varahar and the Ulaglanada Perumal (Lord who measured the three worlds with just three steps) are the ones which the devotee should not miss to see in the temple.
  • It is believed that the devotee would become a pundit in mathematics if he/she worships Mahalakshmi.
  • Devotees pray for successful deals in marriage talks and for child boon and academic distinctions.
  • Legend Sri Anjaneya was bathing in River Kandaki in Nepal, He got a stone named Salagrama in the shape of Lord Vishnu.He was carrying it through the sky and passed through this place.He had to take a bath but could not as the Salagrama should not be placed on Earth. He then just found Sri Mahalakshmi performing penance.Sri Anjaneya requested the Mother to hold the Salagrama till he returned after a bath.The Mother agreed on the condition that She would place it down if he did not return with a stipulated time.But Anjaneya could not come in time. Mother placed it down which Anjaneya could not move.The Salagrama grew into a mountain.
