  • The temple is praised in the Thevram hymns of Gnanasambandar and Tirunavukkarasar and hence one of the Devara Padal Petra Sthalams.
  • Tirucherai Lord Saraparameswara is also praised in the name of Chenneri Appar meaning that the Lord shows all the people the righteous way of living.

Thiyagaraja Swamy Temple, Tiruvarur
  • One of the holiest of the 276 Thevara Paadal petras sthalams
  • One of the Pancha bootha sthalams representing Prithivi (Land).
  • This is the sthalam that grants salvation to those people who are born here and also longing for it. It is considered that Shiva bootha ganas are born as people in Thiruvarur. Sundarar mentions “I am the slave of all those born in Tiruvarur” in his works in Thevaram.
  • The temple covers a huge area, having in its fold 9 Rajagopurams, 80 domes (vimanam), 12 high raised walls, 13 mandapams, 15 holy water wells, three flower gardens, three big prakaras and more than 100 shrines! This temple holds the record of having maximum shrines in India. It will take at least one full day to see all the important features and shrines of the temple.
  • There are two Lingam in the temple. One is Rana (wounds) Vimo-chana (Relief) Lingam and Runa (Debts) Vimo-Chana (Relief) Lingam. Rana Vimochana Lingaeswarar will give immense relief from your illness and Runa Vimochana Lingaeswarar will give you immense relief from your debts.

  • Sage Markandeya installed a Linga for his own soul satisfaction near the Vinayaka in this temple and had been worshipping the Lord, praised as Rina (debts) Vimochana (released and discharged) Lingeswarar (God).
  • The Runa Vimochana Lingaeswarar will give you immense relief from your debts.
  • Lord Shiva graces in the temple as Swaymbumurthi. The rays of Sun falls directly on the presiding deity and the feet of the Mother on 13, 14 and 15th of Masi (February-March).
  • Devotees offer abishek and Vastras to the Lord to get relief from debts. They offer prayers on 11 Mondays performing archanas and participate in the abishek ceremony finally on the 11th Monday.
  • Devotees offer garlands made of Vada (a pudding fried in oil) to Bhairava on Ashtami day (8th day from new moon or full moon day), perform archana with 1000 names (Sahasranama) for relief from the adverse aspects of the planets and for success in litigations.

            Lord Runa Vimochana Perumal relieves His devotees from debt burdens and ailments.Devotees go to Lord Shiva temple on every Monday evening between 4.30 to 6.00 PM in the evening. This particular puja is called as "Somavar Puja". Devotees perform abhisekam with the raw rice powder to the Lord Shiva as a parihara for reducing the debts. Devotees believe that they will get complete relief from debts after the completion of 11 weeks of Prayer to Lord Shiva.

  • Devotees pray to Rahukala Durga for promotion and favourable transfers.
  • Devotees pray to Mother Neelotpalambal and consume the nivedhana milk of the Arthajama Puja to get children.
  • Devotees pray to presiding deity Lord Thiagaraja for wedding, child, high ranks in education, employment opportunities, progress in trade and profession and promotion boon.
