Morning

Raghu Temple, Thirunageswaram

 

 

  • The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam and one of the Navagraha sthalams.
  • In this temple, Sri Raghu is seen here in human form with His consorts Sri Naga Kanni and Sri Naga valli.
  • Many serpents, including Adishesha, Takshaka and Karkotaka, worshipped Shiva at this place, leading to the name “Tirunageswaram”.
  • At this sthala, the colour of milk changes from white to blue during Abhishekam. On 16.2.86, a snake had shed off its outer skin on Rahu Bhagavan, which is preserved and worshipped to date.
