Pattamangalam Dakshinamoorthy Temple – A Must Visit For People Who Wanted to Pursue Higher Studies !!

Pattamangalam Dakshinamoorthy Temple is one of the most famous temples of South India for Lord Dakshinamoorthy. This is the only temple in India where Lord Dakshinamoorthy graces His devotees by facing East. This temple is one of the Guru Sthalam (the temple dedicated to Lord Dakshinamoorthy).

This temple is located in a place called Pattamangalam in Sivaganga Dist., in Tamilnadu. The main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva and He is known by the name Sundareshwarar. The Goddess of the temple is Meenakshi Amman. Normally, Lord Dakshinamoorthy will be seen in all Shiva temples and He will be sitting in the yogic posture facing South. We could also find separate shrines for Him in a few other temples like Aalankudi and Tiruvarur. But even in these temples, He is seen facing South. But Pattamangalam temple is the only temple where Guru Bhagawan is seen facing East.

In this temple, a separate shrine for Lord Dakshinamoorthy is seen outside the temple. Moreover, Lord Dakshinamoorthy graces His devotees by sitting in a very unique Veerasana posture, smiling, fair in complexion, wearing crescent moon and Kondrai flower on head, holding Agni on the upper right hand, Gnana Mudra in the Lower right hand, a Serpent on the upper left hand and placing His lower left hand on His lap. At the back of the shrine of Lord Dakshinamoorthy, there is a Huge Banyan tree (Sthala Vruksha) and a temple Pushkarani (Sacred Pond).

People who are willing to pursue their higher studies without any hindrance visit this temple and pray to Lord Dakshinamoorthy by circumambulating the shrine of Lord Dakshinamoorthy and the Banyan Tree for 108 times. By doing so, it is strongly believed that Lord Dakshinamoorthy will bless them with all wishes and prosperity in their life. Once their wish is fulfilled, the devotees visit this temple and do abishekam and offer clothes (vastras) to Lord Dakshinamoorthy as an act of thanksgiving.

Apart from this, people also circumambulate the Lord 3 times to make their wish come true, 5 times to succeed in all their efforts, 7 times to have peace of mind, 9 times to have a baby boon, 11 times for longevity, 15 times for prosperity and 1008 times to get married to a person of their choice.

Moreover, in this temple, one can see Lord Muruga in the inner space behind Shia Linga and He graces in the form of Lord Shanmuganatha with 5 heads accompanied with His consorts Valli and Deivanai.
