Nera Kovil – An Exclusive Temple for Time !!

Time is the main factor that influences one’s life. It affects one’s life in a cyclical good and bad ways. Here is a temple that is dedicated to the God of Time. The Nera Kovil (Time Temple) is the temple where people can worship to set right any bad time in their life.

The main deity worshipped in this Nera Kovil is Sri Kaala Devi Amman. The temple is located on the Madurai-Srivilliputhur Road, in M. Subbulapuram village. The temple is small but very unique in its structure and pooja timings.

The structure of this Nera Kovil resembles an ‘udukkai’ (Lord Shiva’s Damaru) and the sanctum sanctorum is octagonal in shape. The main deity Kaala Devi is in a standing posture in the center of 5 circles and 5 stars. This represents the power of creation, protection, and destruction. It is strongly believed that the Goddess Sri Kaala Devi can convert bad times into good times.

The temple was first established by a Guruji named Swamithasan in the year 1999. The diety was first installed in the small hut and later the temple building was constructed by 2006.

The temple is open from 5 PM till morning. Devotees prefer to spend the night in the temple premises after participating in yagna puja that is performed only on the new moon and full moon days.

It is said that the time circle (Kaala Chakram) moves 102 times for a second and good time comes at one point of time just for a fraction of a second. That is why the devotees are requested to spend the night in the temple premises.

The temple is not only for those who suffer due to bad times but also cures health problems such as swelling, headache, backache, heart problem, knee pain, and bone disorder.

Everybody knows time is precious and a healer too. But an exclusive temple for Time is indeed interesting.
