Mangalyeswarar Temple, Edayathumangalam
Mangalyeswarar Temple is an ancient hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Edayathumangalam near Lalgudi in Trichy district. The presiding deity is Magalyeswarar and Goddess Mangalambikai. The temple has separate shrines for Vinayakar, Mangalya Maharishi, Dakshinamurthy, Bitchandar, Ardhanareeswarar, Chandikeswarar, Durgai, Nandi, Navagrahas and Lord Muruga with Valli and Deivayanai. This temple is especially for those whose birth star is Uthiram.
As per Legend, Sage Mangalya who was the patron in the marriages of sages, Agasthiar, Vishishtar and Bhairavar, was an Uthiram starrer. He is the authority of Akshadha (a mix of turmeric in rice to bless the newly married couple) angels flying in the air with garlands as seen in some marriage invitation cards. It is believed that seeking his blessings will strongly benefit those yearning to get married. This is why the divine marriage festival of God and Goddess are held on an Uthiram star day in the month of Panguni which is commonly known as Panguni Uthiram.
The beneficiaries of this temple also include women praying for husband’s longevity, deserted elderly people yearning to reunite with their family, people with problems in their feet.
Pooja Items required for the archana:
Five ghee lamps, three garlands, tied jasmine flowers, untied flowers(udhiri poo), three coconuts, one dozen of banana, ten Betal leaves, arecanut. Most importantly, the devotees are required to bring their horoscopes.
Pooja Procedure:
- The pooja items along with the horoscope are handed over to the priest. He performs the archana by offering the garlands, one to Mangalyeswarar, one to Mangalambikai and the other to Mangalya Maharishi.
- Once the marriage is fixed, the first invitee should be Mangalya Maharishi. The invitation card is to be brought to the temple and placed at his feet requesting him to bless the couple on their marriage.
- On successful completion of their marriage, the temple has to be visited by the couple to express their gratitude.

By Air:
The nearest airport to the temple is Trichy airport at a distance of 28 km.
By Rail:
Lalgudi railway station is the nearest station to the temple at a distance of 4 km. The nearest major railway station is Trichy which is 25 km.
By Road:
Buses are available from Trichy to Lalgudi, the distance between them being around 25 km. The temple is just 5 km from Lalgudi.
