Divya Desams
In Hinduism, Lord Vishnu is one of the most Powerful and most worshiped God. Temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu is found from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari and the Lord is found in various forms and Postures. Out of these Vishnu temples, the 12 Alwars (12 Supreme Devotees of Vishnu) have sung about 108 of them in Nalayira Divya Prabandam, which is a collection of 4000 Tamil Verses in the praise of Lord Vishnu.
These 108 temples that are sung in the Divya Prabandam is called the Divya Desams meaning ‘Holy Shrine Spots’ or ‘108 Vishnu Sthalams’. Of the 108 temples, 105 are in India, 1 in Nepal and the other 2 are Thirupaarkadal (Ocean of Milk) and Srivaikuntam (Place where Lord Narayana resides). In these 108 temples, Lord Vishnu is found in various Thirukolams (Postures). They are;
Kidantha Thirukolam (Sleeping Posture) – 27 Divya Desams
Veetrirundha Thirukolam (Sitting Posture) – 21 Divya Desams
Nindra Thirukolam (Standing Posture) – 60 Divya Desams
Most of these temples are located in South India and a few are seen in North India (Delhi and Gujarat). So do visit all the Divya Desams and get the fullest blessings of Lord Vishnu !!
