Here are the Top 3 temples to be visited in Tamil Nadu that are for job and career prospects.

Sri Jambukeshwarar Temple

Sri Akilandeshwari sametha Jambukeshwarar temple is located in a place called Thiruvanaikkaval in Trichy. Thiruvanaikkoil Temple is one of the Panchabhoota Sthalams and it represents ‘Water’ (Neer). Hence the Lingam here is called Appu Lingam. It is believed that a stream of water is emerging from beneath the Lingam and we can usually witness the same by seeing the soaking wet clothes draped over the Lingam.

parvathiThe sthala Purana says that once a sage named Jambu came to this place and did tapas (Penance). Lord granted his darshan and gave Naaval (blackberry) fruit as Prasadam. While consuming the fruit, he swallowed the seeds as well, since he thought that spitting the seeds would be a sin. After reaching the stomach, the seed grew into a tree and it pierced through his head. This gave salvation to the sage. Since the Lord blessed the salvation for the Sage Jambu, the Lingam is called Jambukeswarar.

According to another sthala Purana, Devi Parvathi was once born as a human as directed by Lord Shiva. She performed tapas in the forest called Jambu forest that is located in Thiruvanaikoil. She made a Lingam out of water from the Kaveri river and she kept it under Naaval (Blackberry) tree. Being impressed by her prayers, Lord appeared and gave darshan to Devi and taught Her Siva Gnana. Devi Akhilandeswari took His Upadesa (lessons) by facing the East and the Lord stood facing the West. So this temple is also known as Upadesha Sthalam. As the Devi acted like a student and Lord Jambukeshwarar was like a Guru (teacher), there is no Thiru Kalyanam (marriage) conducted in this temple. Also, unlike the other Shiva temples, there exists no Palli Arai in this temple.

Another interesting fact about the temple is that in early days, the Goddess was in furious form. Normally a Srichakra will be installed at the feet of the Goddess to pacify her. But Sri Adi Shankarar prepared two earrings that had the Power of SriChakra and he wore them to Devi Akilandeshwari. After that, Devi became merciful and serene.

It was believed that Devi Akilandeshwari worships the Lord during midday. So even today, the temple priest dresses up himself like a female by wearing saree and the crown and then does pooja and abishekam to the Lord Jambukeshwara and the Holy cow. Then he returns back to the Goddess’s shrine. At this time, the devotees worship the priest as he is considered as the Goddess herself.

The devotees who are looking for a job or a job change can perform special pooja at this temple to Lord Jambukeshwarar. People who also have some doshams related to their career also can perform the pooja and they can see that things are really turning out well. Once their wish is fulfilled, devotees visit the temple again and offer saree and give donations to the temple as a symbol of thanksgiving.

Sri Adi Kumbeswarar Temple

Mangalambika Sametha Adi Kumbeshwarar temple is another important temple for worshipping for Career prospects. The temple is located in Kumbakonam and it is considered as one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam.

Kumbesh 2The sthala Purana says that, during pralaya Kaala, Lord Brahma approached Lord Shiva to ask him how to protect the Amritha – ‘the Creation material’. Lord Shiva suggested him to have everything in a sacred Pot and made it float in the flood. Once the pot stopped floating, Lord Shiva took the guise of a hunter and pierced the pot with his arrow. The contents of the pot like the Mango leaf, Grass, Vilva Leaf, coconut and the sacred thread (Poonal) started to fall in different places due to the wind. All those turned into shiva Lingams in different places and they became Shiva temples later. The nectar or the Amritha settled in the Mahamaham Tank and Potramarai Tank. Then Lord Shiva made a Shiva Lingam out of the broken pieces of the Pot and entered into it. Hence the name Adi Kumbeshwarar  (Adi – First and Foremost, Kumba – Pot, Eshwarar – Lord Shiva). Also, the Shiva Lingam in this temple is slightly tilted towards the left at the top and so this placed is called Kumbakonam (Kumba – Pot, Konam – tilted/Bent).

The main goddess here is Devi Mangalambikai and the temple is considered as one of the 64 Shakthi Peeta Sthalas. It is believed that Lord Shiva gave half of His Body to Goddess Parvathi and he also parted  36 crores of His Mantra Shakti-power with Her. It is said that Mother Parvathi already has her 36 crores of Mantra Shakti and this power from the Lord adds up Her power to 72 crores and so she is praised as Mantra Peeteshwari.

Sri Parthasarathy Temple

Sri Parthasarathy temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams of Perumal and is located in a place called Thiruvallikeni or Triplicane in Chennai. The main God of the temple is the Lord Vishnu and this is the only temple where Perumal appears with the moustache as that of a Sarathi (Charioteer). So he is also known as ‘Meesai Perumal’.

During Mahabharata, Lord Krishna acted as a Charioteer to Arjuna (Hence the name Parthasarathy Partha – Arjuna, Sarathy – Charioteer). While doing so, he received the arrows that are shot by Bhishma on Himself in order to protect Arjuna. Devotees can notice those scars in the Lord’s face even today. Because of this reason, more Ghee will be used while preparing the nivedhana. Ghee is considered as an ingredient that cures the wounds quickly. Unlike other temples, the Lord Vishnu here appears without any weapon (Disc) in His hand since he owed to support the Pandavas in the war without holding any sort of weapon.

The main Goddess is Vedavalli Thayar. It is believed that Sage Brugu performed Tapas here to attain the Lord as his Son- in- Law. Accordingly, he found a female child in the Alli (Lily) flower in the Temple Tank (Pushkarini). The sage took the child and named Her Vedavalli. When she attained the marriageable age, Perumal appeared and married Her. Goddess Vedavalli Thayar blesses the devotees from Her own separate shrine.

Another specialty of this temple is that this is the only temple that has five avatars or forms of Vishnu namely, Yoga Narasimhar, Sri Ramar, Gajendravaradaraja, Sri Ranganathar and Lord Krishna. Also, the Lord Venkata Krishna appears with His whole Family – Mother Rukmani to His Right, Mother Mahalakshmi in His chest, His elder brother Balarama to the Right of Rukmani Thayar, His Son Prathyumnan and his grandson Anirudhan found in the North. So the Lord bestows His blessings with His ‘Whole Family’ 🙂

People pray to Lord YogaNarasimha for Good education and wisdom. Devotees who seek for a new job or growth in their career offer prayers to the Lord by performing Thirumanjanam and offer Sarkarai Pongal as the nivedhana.
